Local Foods - The BEST Restaurant in Houston

Local Foods is more than just a restaurant—it’s a Houston success story built on a foundation of fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a mission to redefine casual dining. Founded by Benjy Levit and Dylan Murray, the concept first came to life in Rice Village, where they set out to create a menu inspired by local farms and sustainable practices. What began as a neighborhood spot for gourmet sandwiches and salads quickly grew into a beloved institution, expanding to multiple locations across Houston, including Upper Kirby, The Heights, and Post Oak. Their mission has always been clear: to offer high-quality meals that are as nourishing as they are delicious, all while supporting local vendors and showcasing the vibrant flavors of the region.
For me, Local Foods is deeply personal. My wife and I discovered it while we were students at the University of Houston, and it’s been a part of our lives ever since. The Crunchy Chicken Sandwich has become a favorite, but what keeps us coming back is their unwavering commitment to quality. Every visit guarantees fresh ingredients, phenomenal flavors, and a meal that feels indulgent without compromising on health. Local Foods represents everything I love about Houston’s dining scene—a focus on community, creativity, and a passion for excellent food. Their story is one I’m proud to share, and their mission is one I fully support. I’ve listed their 5 Houston locations below in case this article made you hungry!
